Fresh Hops – Fresh Malt

Goschie Farms, Indie Hops, and Admiral Maltings are working together to bring you the freshest ingredients ever made possible for the 2026 hop harvest season.

We recently walked the barley fields at Goschie Farms. They’re looking beautiful, and we plan to have our first batches freshly malted in late July. This seasonal serendipity gives Oregon brewers the ability to use freshly kilned Goschie Promise malt alongside freshly plucked hops grown at Goschie Farms.

Crafted in small batches, Goschie Promise is floor-malted from Oregon Promise, Salmon Safe barley, grown exclusively at Goschie Farms in Silverton, Oregon. Developed by Oregon State University’s Dr. Pat Hayes, Oregon Promise combines the heritage character of Golden Promise with the brewing performance of Full Pint, creating a uniquely flavorful and highly expressive barley.

This special collaboration offers brewers the epitome of terroir: a floor-malted, estate-grown barley traceable from field to brewhouse. For breweries featuring Goschie grown hops, Goschie Promise makes it possible to create a single-origin Goschie Farms beer.

Admiral’s traditional floor-malting process is uniquely suited to this exceptional barley. Gentle handling, spread thinly on the malt floor, and careful kilning preserve delicate flavor compounds that are often lost in industrial malting. The result is a malt of remarkable depth and character, with notes of honey, white cake, and sweet bran, supported by a rich, silky texture.

In the brewhouse, Goschie Promise performs as beautifully as it tastes. Well modified with low protein, it is ideal for single-infusion mashing, it delivers excellent friability and high extract. Brewers can achieve target gravities with less grain while producing a highly attenuative wort.

The flavor is unmistakable: pronounced honey aromatics, a smooth nectar-like palate, and a fullness that persists even in highly attenuated beers. It brings surprising depth to low-gravity beers and shines in malt-forward styles where grain character takes center stage. Kilned to a low color, Goschie Promise is versatile enough for virtually any beer style.

Goschie Promise will be available starting in late July 2026. Plenty of time before your first fresh hop brew.

Four Oregon-bred Indie Hops varieties will be available for fresh hop pickups from Goschie Farms: Strata, Lórien, Luminosa and Audacia.

In addition to the four Oregon-bred Indie Hops varieties, Indie will also offer the following Goschie-grown public varieties for fresh hop pickups: Cascade, Crystal, Sterling, US Fuggle / Tettnang, and Willamette.

For breweries unable to pick up at the farm, don’t fret! Indie has options for you, too. 

For brewers unable to pick up fresh hops directly from Oregon farms, you can still make a fresh malt fresh hop beer with Admiral Maltings and Indie Hops.
